Is it Time to Upgrade My AMD Ryzen 7 5700G for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I recently got a PC from my dad since he's building a new one, and I'm diving into the world of gaming and hardware upgrades. I've just bumped my RAM from 16GB to 32GB. I'm super stoked about playing Borderlands 4 when it drops on the 12th, but I noticed that my processor and graphics card fall just short of the recommended specs. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 TI graphics card. I'm curious if either of these might hold back my gaming experience, especially in the future. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend really checking your actual in-game performance before jumping to upgrades. Sometimes, just optimizing what you have can yield better performance without the extra cost of new parts.

Your CPU is considered entry-level by today's standards and the GPU is on the lower end of mid-range. You might want to check how much you're pushing those components before upgrading. If your GPU is consistently hitting 95-100% usage while gaming, that's a clear sign it's time to upgrade. Also, consider tuning your RAM since your 5700G is more sensitive to it. It might give you a decent performance boost!

Definitely aim for a 5700X or 5800X if you're focused on frame rates! They’re well-priced and should give you a nice boost.

I ran Cyberpunk 2077 for a few minutes, and the GPU peaked around 75%, but it varied. Do you think a 5700X or 5800X would be better for me? I really want to avoid frame drops more than anything else.

Don't forget to list the rest of your specs too! It’ll help get more precise advice specific to your setup.

Before you decide on an upgrade, do you have a budget in mind? Knowing where you live, like in Virginia, can help narrow down options. But just throwing a couple of hundred dollars out there is also a good start!

I don't have a solid budget yet, just exploring my options. Maybe a few hundred, but I'm not entirely sure!

Remember, with the 5700G, you might be limited by the L3 cache compared to the 5700X. So really tuning your RAM could help a lot; it might even give you a solid 10% performance increase in games with that manual tuning.
