I'm waiting for my new monitor to arrive this week, and I'm curious about whether or not I should upgrade my CPU. I've noticed that when I activate DLSS in Quality mode at 2K resolution, the GPU usage drops and CPU usage increases significantly. Should I be thinking about upgrading my CPU now, or will my current setup be good enough for 4K gaming? Here's my current configuration:
- Monitor: UltraGear OLED 32" (4K)
- CPU: Ryzen 5800x
- GPU: 5070 ti
- RAM: 16GB 3600GHz
Previously, I was using an Optix MAG272CQR (2K) with the same CPU and GPU setup.

Play some games and see if you're satisfied with the performance. If you're playing on lower settings and it's not enjoyable, then an upgrade could be worth it. Keep in mind, though, upgrading your CPU typically means you'll also need a new motherboard and RAM, which can add up to a hefty cost—at least $550 or more to do it right.
Just see how your games perform with your current setup first. There's no rush to upgrade until you notice a real performance hit. If you're not facing any issues playing your games, stick with what you have for now!
