I'm considering whether I should upgrade my PC's CPU. My current specs are 16 GB of RAM, a Ryzen 5 1400 processor, and a GTX 1650 Super graphics card. How does my setup hold up for gaming right now? What kind of games can I run with these specs?

Yeah, your system is pretty underpowered, especially by today's standards. Upgrading is a personal choice—if it fits your needs, then there's no rush. Think about what games you want to play and what performance you expect. If it's mainly for programming and casual gaming, it might adequately serve you.

With your current specs, you can run just about any game, but it all depends on the performance you're aiming for. For AAA titles, you might get around 120 FPS, but if you're thinking about making the monitor 60 Hz instead of 144 Hz, that could definitely make things feel smoother.

Just a heads up, if your system is prebuilt, like many Dell models, your upgrade options could be limited due to factors like a 460W PSU. That said, your Ryzen 5 1400 and GTX 1650 Super combo can handle games at 1080p, albeit with reduced settings. It's better suited for older titles, but you can still run many newer games.

Even if you upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600X, keep in mind that your GPU will likely be the bottleneck. Your current components work well together, so if you plan to upgrade your CPU, it might be wise to save and look into a GPU upgrade at the same time. You’ll manage to play most games on low to medium settings for newer titles, and medium-high for less demanding games.

You should really think about upgrading only if your current setup isn't meeting your gaming needs. While it’s not the strongest configuration out there, if you're satisfied with the performance for what you're playing, it might not be necessary to upgrade right now.
