Is it time to upgrade my Linux Mint 20.3?

I've been using Linux Mint 20.3 on my Latitude E5520 and it's been running smoothly compared to my previous setup on Ubuntu 24.04, which kept freezing. However, I'm running into issues since I can't install software that requires newer kernels. Given my hardware specs—a second-gen i5 CPU, Intel HD 3000 GPU, and 8 GB of RAM—should I upgrade my Linux Mint version? If so, which version is recommended? Thanks for any advice!

Yeah, if you're facing blocks with installing newer software because of the old version, then an upgrade is necessary. I'd suggest going straight to the latest version for the latest patches and features. It should improve your experience even more!

Absolutely, upgrading is a good idea. Since you're having software compatibility issues due to an older kernel, moving up to a newer version will definitely help. You'll get better support for new applications and improvements!

Consider not just upgrading Linux Mint but also trying out Xubuntu—some users find it works better for older hardware like yours. It might provide you with a smooth experience while giving you access to newer software.
