Is it time to upgrade my PC or just stick with what I have?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5600G on an X570 motherboard, with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an RTX 3060. I mainly play Escape from Tarkov and have been considering upgrading my CPU, but I want to stay on the AM4 platform. I've thought about getting a Ryzen 7 or 9, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I've read about the 5800X3D, but it's out of my budget. I'm curious if a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 would be a significant improvement or if I should consider a whole new setup, like a laptop instead.

Your CPU is actually pretty solid for gaming, but I get that the 3060 might not be cutting it for you. If you’re mainly playing CPU-heavy games, perhaps focusing on GPU might be a better route in the long run instead of upgrading your CPU now. Also, laptops generally aren't a great choice if you're looking for performance, so keeping your current rig could be the better play.

You might want to consider switching to the AM5 platform, like the Ryzen 5 7600X, but that involves a new motherboard and RAM, which can get pricey. If upgrading is going to cost you upwards of $500, maybe focus on what you already have. You could be better off waiting until prices go down.

The 5700X would be a great budget upgrade, but I'm wary about the 3D chips; they seem overpriced lately. I hear you on the laptop sentiment—stick with what you enjoy. Upgrading piece by piece might be a better approach than shelling out for a whole new system.

If you want to stick with AM4, the best option for you seems to be the Ryzen 7 5700X3D. It's around $300 and offers decent performance over your current setup. If that's too steep, you might not find any upgrade worthwhile right now. Just be mindful that the 5800X3D is a bit of a premium choice, and if you're worried about price, it might be out of reach for now.
