Is it time to upgrade to AM5 or just go for a Ryzen 5700X?

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU from a Ryzen 5 3600 because it's really struggling with games like Monster Hunter: Wilds. I'm considering the Ryzen 5700X since it's priced at around $130, but I'm hesitant to invest a lot just to find myself needing another upgrade soon. Would upgrading to the 5700X help with performance, or should I take the plunge and go for AM5 instead?

It's important to note that upgrading for MHW might not be the best strategy since it's known to run poorly on many systems. Instead of focusing solely on that game, consider a broader upgrade plan. The Ryzen 5600(X) and 5700X3D are solid choices for gaming on AM4 and could give you great value depending on pricing. If the 5700X is cheaper than the 5600X, though, it's a viable option.

Yeah, I agree! The 5700X is a decent choice at a good price point, especially if it’s cheaper than the 5600X. Just remember, MHW might still give you trouble regardless of the CPU.

MHW isn't particularly well-optimized, so even with the 5700X, you might not see stellar performance. It will definitely improve over the 3600, but it's worth considering something like the 5700X3D for $250, as it provides about 20% more power and is competitive with the AM5 7600X, all while being the cheaper option.
