Is it time to upgrade to AM5 or should I stick with AM4 for now?

Hey everyone, I'm seeking some advice on whether I should upgrade my current AM4 rig or jump straight to an AM5 build. Currently, I'm running a Ryzen 5 1400, RX 570 (4GB), 16GB of 3200MHz RAM, and a B350 motherboard, along with a 1080p 144Hz monitor. I need a setup that can handle programs like Blender, Photoshop, animation, video editing, and coding, along with running Minecraft on ultra/high settings with mods. Right now, I can only record videos in Full HD 48fps without lagging, which is frustrating.

I've got around $1200-$1500 saved. Should I stick with AM4 and wait for potential AM6, or go all in on AM5? The prices for the latest NVIDIA cards are pretty similar, so I'm also debating whether to invest more in a CPU or GPU as part of this upgrade. I'm not keen on buying used parts because it seems risky. Any insights would really help!

I think going with AM5 is definitely the way to go! It's an incredible platform, and you won't regret that choice. I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7900, and it feels like a total powerhouse compared to my old setup. Plus, the efficiency with its 65W TDP is impressive!

Also, remember that AM5 will be supported until 2027-2028, so you’ll have access to newer CPUs down the line. AM6 might not even show up until then, which means you would miss out on the performance of AM5. B650 motherboards are pretty affordable too, and you can find CPUs starting at around $130!

That's good to know! So if I go for a solid AM5 setup now, I should be in a good spot for future upgrades.

If you're looking to spend $800-$1000, then absolutely go for AM5! But if you want to save a bit of cash and think you’ll have a better budget in a couple of years, consider upgrading your CPU and GPU for now. Maybe add some more RAM too, especially if you're playing heavily modded games. That way, you have a solid system to run on until you can invest in a full upgrade later.

That’s what I was thinking! Upgrade now, then save for a bigger change later. I'm just a bit concerned about whether sticking with PCIe 3.0 will hold back the performance.

If you want the best bang for your buck, I'd recommend picking up a 5800X or any higher-end AM4 CPU on sale along with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. That could be a very smart choice!

With your budget, you should definitely go AM5 without any hesitation! It’s a solid investment.

Thanks! But do you think I might regret not waiting for AM6?
