Is it worth changing my phone number after 30 years to escape spam calls?

I've kept the same phone number since the 90s, and it's connected to everything in my life, including old bank accounts and various store rewards programs. Recently, I've been bombarded daily with spam calls about fake bank offers, Medicare updates, and those annoying 'your computer is infected' robocalls. I've tried blocking them, reporting them, and even signed up for the Do Not Call list, but nothing seems to help. It's like my number is on every spam list out there. The big issue is that changing it would be a headache since it's linked to so much in my life. Has anyone here changed their phone number after holding it for decades? Got any tips to ensure I don't lose track of my important stuff during the transition?

Consider porting your number to Google Voice. This could help you get two-factor authentication codes without the spam calls coming directly to your main number. Just keep in mind, some banks and services won’t accept Google Voice numbers for 2FA, so check that first before switching.

Honestly, I've changed numbers a few times and the spam just finds its way back. You could also try services that help manage spam calls or block them altogether.

Changing your number probably won't end the spam completely. You might want to assess what accounts are using your current number since that's likely contributing to the spam. It's a good strategy to clean that up too.

Just a heads-up, if you get a new number, you'll likely still deal with spam. It might slow down for a bit, but it can pick up again quickly. I suggest looking into how to manage your accounts first before making the change.

On my phone, I've found that the spam filtering works really well. I haven't received many spam calls since using it. If you have a smartphone, check those settings out!
