I'm building my first PC and initially aimed for the Radeon RX 9070 XT. However, local prices are rising, and with the addition of a $40-60 tax, it's getting tough on the budget. Now I'm considering the standard RX 9070, which is cheaper. I still have a month or two to save before I can get a GPU, and I'm worried about how much prices might increase by then.
So, my question is: if the XT becomes too expensive, will the non-XT still perform well enough for gaming? Some gamers say the non-XT is significantly worse, but I'm not too concerned about a small difference in frame rates if it saves me a good chunk of money. I'd like to play at 1440p on high settings, occasionally dabbling in ray tracing, but I don't need it to enjoy my games.

I love my 9070 non-XT! It stays cool, has great overclocking potential, and consumes less power, which means a less beefy power supply is needed. It performs just fine at 4K and is solid at 1440p too!
I picked the 9070 because I wanted something under 200W during gaming. After some tweaking, it runs around 195W max, and I can game at 1440p without any hiccups—even with ray tracing in Cyberpunk 2077, I'm getting around 80-90 FPS!
Ray tracing is becoming essential in new AAA games. The 9070 XT is about 10% faster, so you’ll have to decide if that performance boost is worth the extra cost. Personally, I'd consider the RTX 5070 instead of the non-XT 9070 since DLSS 4.5 is impressive and often cheaper.
Honestly, the difference in performance between the 9070 and 9070 XT isn't as dramatic as people claim—around 10-15% in most titles. At 1440p with high settings, the 9070 will still deliver good frame rates. If saving that extra money helps you finish your build sooner, I'd say go for the non-XT and upgrade later when the market settles down.
At 1440p on high settings, the non-XT will do just fine! The performance gap feels bigger on paper than it does in reality. If you're not aiming for super high frame rates or max settings, save your cash and don’t stress about it.

Yeah, I get that! My 9070 has been such a solid card. I didn’t encounter any issues, while the XT seems to hog the attention. Better performance, sure, but it's all about personal preference and usage.
