I'm looking for some advice about my setups. I recently upgraded my main PC to a R9 5950X with a 9070 XT and 64GB of DDR4 RAM. However, I also have a secondary workstation running an R5 3600 and an RTX 3070, which I use for work and some occasional gaming. I originally had a custom water cooling setup for my previous RTX 2080 Ti with dedicated EK waterblocks and parts, but I've taken that apart to save costs for my upgrade. Now I'm contemplating whether to put the 2080 Ti back into my secondary workstation, even though it needs a custom cooling loop setup. I'm curious about the performance differences between the two cards—especially for 1080p and maybe 1440p gaming— and if the extra work and hassle of getting the water cooling back in place would be worth it for the performance I'd gain. I don't plan on overclocking extensively and want to know if keeping the 2080 Ti operational is worth the effort, given that I won't be doing 4K gaming on this machine.

The performance difference between the two cards is generally quite close, with the 2080 Ti having 3GB more VRAM. In most gaming scenarios at 1080p and 1440p, you might not see a huge difference unless you're in specific cases that really utilize that extra VRAM.
If you're still considering using one of the cards in your main rig, the 2080 Ti could potentially benefit from lossless scaling and frame generation features, which might be another factor to consider.
The 3070 incorporates newer technology that might offer a better experience overall compared to the 2080 Ti. Honestly, I don’t believe the effort to reconfigure everything for the 2080 Ti is justified unless you're looking for something specific.

I feel the same way. Setting up a water-cooling loop just for a slight advantage seems like a lot of trouble.
