Is It Worth It to Replace My CPU Cooler and Rewire My Case for £234?

Hey everyone! I just upgraded my PC with a new 5070 Ti GPU, but now it's shutting off within minutes of running—sometimes even just on the desktop or BIOS. I took it to a local repair guy, but he couldn't diagnose the issue after checking the GPU and PSU. Then I went to a repair shop, and they said the CPU cooler is faulty—which makes sense since it's about 7 years old. They also mentioned that the case needs to be rewired, though I'm not sure what that entails. They quoted me £234 for the rewire and to install a bigger CPU cooler, which includes a £45 diagnostic fee. Does this cost sound reasonable to you all? Thanks for any input!

Do you have a small case? That might explain why you're using that cooler. If you're in a mid-tower like a Phanteks Enthoo Pro, you might have room for a better cooler. Switching it out yourself could be easier than you think!

Yeah, if you can manage the size, definitely look for something better than that Noctua. The options out there are much more efficient these days!

Honestly, £200+ just to replace the CPU cooler sounds pretty steep to me. If you're feeling a bit adventurous, you could probably do it yourself, especially since it might just be a fan issue. Superman's your best bet for good coolers in the £50 range, and it could save you some cash.

I'm not sure why they'd say your case needs a "rewire"—that term isn't very common unless there’s some significant mess going on. So yeah, if you're using the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4, the fan might just be dying, but an upgrade wouldn't hurt either. Did you have one in mind? You could look at something like a thermalright Phantom Spirit; it's a solid choice!

Yeah, the Noctua is the one I’ve had since I built it. I’m open to suggestions for a new cooler. What do you think about the Phantom Spirit?

What model case do you have? It sounds like you have common cable management issues. However, unless it’s a complete mess, they probably shouldn’t need to rewire it. Clean management can help airflow, but it shouldn’t be a reason for replacement.

It's a Phanteks Enthoo Pro mid-tower. My cable management could use some tidying up, but it hasn’t caused any problems yet.
