Is it worth moving my OS from SATA SSD to NVMe SSD?

I've got a 256 GB SATA SSD where my operating system is currently installed, along with a 1 TB hard drive for storage. I recently picked up a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and I'm considering transferring my OS over to it. Since my SATA SSD mainly just has the OS, I'm not worried about losing other data. However, I've heard mixed opinions on whether it's better to keep the OS on a separate drive. What are your thoughts?

Definitely, your boot drive should be the fastest one in your setup for optimal performance. Moving your OS to the NVMe SSD seems like a smart choice.

The idea that it's better to keep your OS on a separate drive is outdated. For the last decade or so, it's generally accepted that your OS should reside on your fastest drive. You should go ahead and move your OS to the NVMe SSD, as it'll likely enhance your system's performance while managing storage seamlessly.

Honestly, I don't think you'll see a noticeable difference just by switching it over. If your SATA SSD is working fine for you, it might not be worth the hassle.

Starting fresh with a new installation is generally a better approach. Just unplug your SATA SSD, connect your new NVMe SSD, and do a fresh install of Windows. Afterward, you can plug the SATA SSD back in to retrieve any important files before wiping it clean for use as extra storage.

If you're noticing that your system boots up quickly from the SATA SSD, you might want to just keep it there for now. However, if it bothers you, partitioning the NVMe SSD could be an option. When it comes time to reinstall your OS, you can always make the move then.
