Is it worth replacing a cracked MacBook Pro screen or should I buy a new laptop?

I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro and unfortunately, the screen has cracked. I'm trying to decide if it's better to get the screen replaced, which I read could cost around $600 to $800, or if I should just invest in a new laptop altogether. Any advice would be appreciated!

I've replaced screens on MacBooks myself, and it’s pretty straightforward if you’ve got some tools and a bit of patience to watch some tutorial videos. Another option is to buy a used 2019 model for parts online—this can save you quite a bit. You could swap out parts like the battery too, which might be a fun project for you!

That sounds like a great plan! Learning how to do it yourself could save a ton of cash.

If you want to keep using your laptop, consider getting an external monitor. You might be able to hook up a small monitor permanently as a workaround.

You should weigh the repair cost against how well your laptop still fits your needs. If the performance is solid and the battery is still good, a screen repair could be a good option. But if it’s already showing signs of wear or you were on the fence about upgrading, it might make more sense to put that cash towards a new device.

I wouldn’t spend that much at Apple for a repair. Usually, you can find a third-party repair shop that could do it for around half the cost. If it could be done for about $300, it’d make much more sense than spending over $600. Plus, with that kind of price difference, you could almost get one of the newer base models!

It really depends on the overall condition of your MacBook Pro. If it’s running smoothly, getting the screen replaced is definitely cheaper than getting a new laptop. But, consider that the newer M-series MacBooks offer significant upgrades. So, if you were already thinking of a new laptop, putting that money toward one of the new models might be worth it.

Absolutely agree! If you don’t need the latest model, an upgrade could be the way to go.
