Is it worth switching from Kubuntu to Bazzite?

I'm considering ditching Windows entirely after dual booting since early 2025, as I hardly use it anymore. I was planning to go with (K)ubuntu 26.04, but I'm now curious if I should try Bazzite instead. My setup includes an AMD 5800X3D processor, AMD 9070 XT graphics card, and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, along with a Creative AE-7 sound card (which currently only works in stereo). My usage is roughly split into 30% gaming (mainly on Steam, but I want to check out GOG and Xbox games), 30% online activities (like banking and shopping), 20% education and document editing, and about 10% image editing (using Darktable and digiKam). What I'm hoping for from a new distro is good performance in gaming, support for Xbox/GOG titles, recent drivers, system stability, and 5.1 surround sound from my sound card. However, I'm hesitant because I've had a smooth experience with Linux Mint on an old netbook, and while my main system runs Kubuntu 25.10 fine, I've faced issues with Ubuntu LTS in the past. I'm worried that switching to a Fedora-based distro might complicate things as it took me a while to get comfortable transitioning from Windows. Would switching to Bazzite be beneficial for me? Should I stick with Kubuntu?

I don't see much reason to switch if Kubuntu is already working well for you. Bazzite won't offer a significant FPS improvement, so sticking with what you know could save you some hassle.

If gaming is your main focus and you’re looking for a SteamOS-like experience, give Bazzite a shot. It's not hard to switch back later if needed. For basic tasks, both have KDE and should feel quite similar, so you might not find the transition too daunting.

If Kubuntu is serving you well, that's a good sign. But if you're feeling adventurous, why not give Bazzite a test run? You can always revert to Kubuntu if it doesn’t fit your needs. And hey, you already know you can go back if it doesn’t work out!

Debian gives you more control over your system than Fedora. If simplicity and control are key for you, maybe consider staying away from Fedora. Just remember that Bazzite comes with NVIDIA drivers pre-installed, which saves you from some of the setup hassle.

It's worth reading up on immutability before making the switch. It sounds cool but may limit some use cases. I personally tend toward Fedora, but it can take some time to set up right, so just be patient if you decide to go that route.
