I recently bought a second-hand Dell Latitude 7480 with an i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and two 256GB SSDs. Right now, I'm using Windows 10 Pro but honestly, I don't have any experience with laptops or operating systems since I've never owned one before. I usually use my laptop for about 7 hours a day for tasks like notetaking in Notion and Freeplane, browsing on the Brave browser for YouTube and job applications, and sometimes using Telegram. Rarely, I might visit some sketchy sites to download books or movies. I'm considering switching to Linux for a few reasons: I don't utilize most Windows features, my Windows is starting to lag, and I'm a bit overwhelmed with the technical terms I've come across while exploring Linux. Plus, I heard that Windows will no longer be supported soon. Should I make the switch despite being a newbie?

Just test it out first! I suggest using a live USB or a virtual machine to see how Linux feels for you without fully committing. Linux Mint is a great starting point because it has a user-friendly interface similar to Windows. Once you get comfortable, you can decide if you want to replace Windows completely. It’s all about finding what works for you!
I switched to Linux for my schoolwork without any prior knowledge as well. It was a bit of a challenge, especially with the learning curve, but ultimately, I loved it! If you’re looking for a better alternative to Windows, go for it. Just be ready to put in some research!
Absolutely, you can totally switch to Linux! There are Linux versions for Notion and Freeplane, so you won’t miss out on your preferred apps. Plus, since you're browsing mostly through the browser, switching to Linux won't affect that too much. I’d recommend trying out Ubuntu LTS first and see how it goes. Keep in mind, things like Office 365 for OneNote are accessible in the browser too, so you won't be losing functionality there. If you have any issues, just ask for help in the community!
I say hold off for now. If you have no experience using any operating systems, diving into Linux might be a bit overwhelming. You mention using OneNote, which shows you're using Windows features. It might cause unnecessary stress trying to learn a completely new OS. Maybe stick with Windows until you feel more confident?
I don’t think it's fair to say it’s too difficult! Learning any new system can be daunting at first, but it's part of the process. I switched to Linux without much knowledge and found it super rewarding in the end. Lots of resources are available to help you learn!
Yeah, I made the switch without knowing a thing about Linux too! Prior to switching, I thought I knew a lot about operating systems just from using them, but you can't really know until you dive in. The Linux community is super helpful, so feel free to reach out if you get stuck!

True, but how do people learn? Switching is tough, but there’s a learning curve for any OS. Having a supportive community can ease the transition. Finding tutorials and asking questions can really help too!
