Is it worth upgrading from 10GB to 12GB of VRAM for gaming at 1440p?

I'm considering upgrading my GPU and I'm torn between getting a 3080 with 10GB of VRAM or a 4070 with 12GB. I want to game at 1440p and hit 120fps, but I'm not sure how much of a difference that extra VRAM will make. Would it be worth the upgrade?

I’d go for the 4070 if you can afford it! You’ll get an additional 2GB of VRAM, plus Frame Generation, which might really help at higher settings. It’s generally a better investment for future-proofing your setup.

That sounds good, but the price jump around here is pretty steep.

Honestly, it might not seem critical now, but in a year or two, you’ll wish you had more. 12GB feels like a safeguard against future titles requiring more memory. It makes the gameplay experience smoother overall.

12GB is definitely the sweet spot for 1440p gaming. If you're looking to play with high settings or in ultra-wide, consider a 16GB card. I’ve got the 4070 Super and haven't run into any VRAM issues, even at high refresh rates.

For 1440p, it can really depend on the games you play and your settings. Check out some benchmarks on YouTube for games you're interested in. The 4070 is likely the better option in the long run, but definitely consider the price.

VRAM does play a significant role. Already, 8GB cards are struggling at 1080p, so 10GB is likely to get hit at 1440p. If you can, I’d push for a 16GB card for better performance. 12GB should help you, but some titles are getting demanding.

Exactly! I’ve already hit the 10GB limit in some games, so I’d be cautious moving forward.
