I'm looking to upgrade from my current AM4 5800X and both the 7800X3D ($369) and 9800X3D ($479) are available at Microcenter. I have a 3080Ti and primarily game, specifically enjoying titles like Tarkov, Hell Let Loose, and some upcoming single-player games like Stalker 2. While I hear the X3D chips are better for gaming, I'm curious if the 9800X3D is worth the extra $110, especially if the performance increase is significant. I wouldn't mind small frame differences, but a boost of 40-60 frames would be a big deal for me.

Definitely go for the 7800X3D! It's a solid choice and will give you great performance. Check out this review on the 9800X3D for more insights if you're considering it: [TPU 9800X3D review](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/18.html).

To be honest, upgrading from a 5800X to a 7800X3D isn't a great bang for your buck. I did it and didn't notice a massive improvement. You might be better off waiting and getting a better GPU instead!
