I'm considering making the jump to a 5090 purely for gaming, but I'm wondering if that's really necessary or if it's just overkill for my needs. Would love to hear your thoughts on whether this upgrade is worth it!

I'd say that getting a 5090 just for gaming is a bit overboard. Unless you're gaming at 4K with high settings, a 5080 would definitely suffice and save you some cash too. It's hard to justify such a high price when there are more reasonable options.
If you've got the budget and it's not going to affect your bills, go for the 5090! It's a hefty investment, but if gaming is your thing, why not treat yourself? Just remember, there are cheaper alternatives that still perform great.
If you're gaming mainly at 4K and want to push settings past 60fps, then it's not necessarily overkill. My 5090 handles demanding games on max settings really well, even though sometimes I still struggle with stable fps. But for most games, a 4070 Ti is perfectly capable!
What if there’s a game that my 4070 Ti struggles with at my favorite settings? Would it change your recommendation?
Honestly, if you're happy with your 4070 Ti and it's running everything you want smoothly, there's no immediate need to upgrade. It's still a solid card, especially if you're considering spending all that extra cash!
I'd suggest holding off for the next generation of graphics cards. It seems like the 5090 doesn’t offer a massive leap from the 4090 for gaming, so if you're not desperate for upgrades, waiting might be the better route.

But wouldn't getting a high-end card like the 5090 future-proof my setup for upcoming games? I've been thinking about the same upgrade.
