I'm in the process of upgrading my setup from an Intel CPU to a 9800X3D, which means I'll also switch my motherboard and RAM (planning to get an Asus X870 Max Gaming). Currently, I'm using a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB SSD. Should I also upgrade to a Samsung 9100 Pro? I want to know if the performance improvements are significant for 4K gaming, but please don't suggest going for a Gen 4 SSD; I'm only considering this specific upgrade.

If you're just gaming, then upgrading isn’t really necessary unless you're also doing heavy workloads, like 4K/8K video editing or large-scale database work.
Gaming relies more on random operations than large sequential speeds, and the improvements from newer SSDs in that area have been minimal—unless you’re going for Optane. Even older SATA SSDs can perform comparably for gaming.
From my experience with the 970 EVO Plus and a 990 EVO Plus, there's no noticeable difference in gaming performance. Unless you're facing storage space issues, I wouldn't suggest upgrading just for gaming.
I'd definitely make the switch! You'd see improvements in loading times and when extracting large files like games.
Honestly, upgrading won’t make much of a difference for gaming. It's more about specific workloads like intense read/write tasks. You might want to hold off and save your money for now.
So it sounds like I can wait. If I ever feel like my SSD isn’t meeting my needs, maybe then I'll think about upgrading to a Gen 4 or 5.

Totally agree! I have both as well, and gaming performance feels pretty much the same.
