Is it worth upgrading from an i7 13700K to a 9800X3D with a 5070Ti?

I'm currently running an i7 13700K paired with a 5070Ti, but I've been experiencing some frustrating FPS drops in certain games like Dota 2 and Apex Legends. While single-player games run smoothly, I feel like my setup should perform better. I've read that switching to an AMD processor might solve these issues. Do you think this upgrade would actually make a difference? I'm on a tight budget, so I'm hoping to get some solid advice.

If you're tight on cash, hold off on the upgrade for now. It might be worth comparing your performance with others who have the same specs to see if yours is truly underperforming. Often, performance issues can be fixed with software tweaks or settings rather than a full CPU upgrade.

Honestly, you might not see a huge difference. Your i7 is pretty powerful, so there could be something else at play, like a setup issue or even a CPU problem. Have you checked your temps or tried other troubleshooting steps? Updating the BIOS can sometimes cause issues too, so be careful with that.

Yeah, I updated the BIOS and it seemed to make things worse! I think I might have that microcode issue they keep mentioning.

You might want to consider a higher-tier GPU like the 4090, especially if you're using multiple monitors in the future. That could provide more performance if you're chasing higher frame rates and quality visuals.

I already bought the 5070Ti and I’m just using a single monitor for now.

Your rig isn't bad at all, but high-performance games like Apex really benefit from 3D CPUs. Upgrading to the 9800X3D could be worth it, especially if you decide to sell your i7 to offset some costs. Just keep in mind, you'd have to switch motherboards too, which adds to the budget concerns.

That’s exactly what I've been thinking, but upgrading my motherboard is just more hassle and expense!
