I'm considering upgrading my RAM from 16GB of DDR4 to 32GB of DDR5 once the prices drop. I've had my current setup for 6 years, and I'm really curious about the performance difference between DDR4 and DDR5. Is the upgrade worth it?

Just a heads up, you can't directly upgrade from DDR4 to DDR5. You'll need a new motherboard and likely a new CPU as well, since they support different types of RAM. DDR5 is definitely faster, but RAM mainly acts as a facilitator. You usually notice a significant performance boost when you're short on RAM rather than just when upgrading. If it’s just about enhancing gaming performance, new RAM might only give you a slight 1-2% boost, so ensure you’re getting enough RAM for what you need.
Honestly, the performance difference is pretty minimal currently, especially with how pricing is set. I’d recommend sticking with DDR4 unless you really have specific needs that require DDR5. Your best bet might just be to add another stick of DDR4 to boost your capacity.
If you're set on upgrading to DDR5, remember that it will require a new motherboard and CPU. Yeah, DDR5 is faster than DDR4, but the price difference might not make it worthwhile right now, especially if you don’t need the extra speed for your use cases.
You can’t simply swap to DDR5; you need a compatible motherboard. Some Intel generations can use either DDR4 or DDR5, but if you're on one of those and considering the update, the current prices make it hard to justify. You might be better off just adding more DDR4 instead.
