Is It Worth Upgrading from Ryzen 3600 to 5600x for Gaming?

I'm helping my friend build his first gaming PC. He'll mainly be playing League of Legends, CS2, and some casual indie games from Steam. We're working with a low budget, and I can get the Ryzen 3600 for free. However, I'm wondering if it's worth spending an extra $80 to get the Ryzen 5600x instead. Will the performance boost be significant enough to justify the cost?

I have the 3600, and I notice a difference in competitive games. The 5600x can give you around 20 more FPS, especially at 1080p. If you find a used 5600x at a good price, that could be a solid upgrade. But honestly, I've seen the brand new prices really high in Europe right now.

It also depends on the GPU you're using. If the 3600 handles your games well enough, the performance gains from the 5600x might not be worth it.

I've got a 6600xt, so hopefully it works fine with the 3600.

Try out the 3600 first, and maybe wait for the 5500X3D to drop later this year. It could offer better value for performance in the long run.

If you already have the Ryzen 3600, I’d say just give it a shot first. If the performance isn't what you hoped for, then consider upgrading later.

Yeah, that's the plan for now since the 3600 is already available.

For a major upgrade, consider going for an X3D CPU. The 5800X3D or 5600X3D would be fantastic for CPU-intensive games. Unless it's one of those, I'd wait on changing CPUs.
