Hey everyone! I built my PC in 2021 and have only upgraded the storage and swapped out the stock CPU cooler. Currently, I'm running a Ryzen 5 3500X, with 16GB of 3200MHz RAM, a 1660 Ti graphics card, and a 650W power supply. I mostly play Valorant, CS2, F1 2025, and FC 25, with occasional triple-A titles. I'm considering upgrading to either the Ryzen 5 5500 or 5600X, but I'm trying to figure out if the performance upgrade is worth it. The 5500 is priced at about $68, while the 5600X is around $120. If the 5600X offers significant benefits, I'm willing to invest, but if not, I'd rather stick with the 5500 and save up for future upgrades like RAM or storage.

If you’re planning on keeping your system for a while, consider saving just a bit more for the 5800X instead. You might find it around $150-165 during upcoming sales, and it provides 8 cores and 16 threads, which offer better longevity. If you’re eyeing an upgrade to AM5 in the near future, then the Ryzen 5600 would be a decent choice if you can snag it at a low price.

If you’re on a budget, go for the 5500 as it offers good value, especially given it has a better memory controller. You can likely overclock it well if your RAM is decent. However, keep in mind that while the 5500 will give you a bit of a performance bump, the 5600 or even 5600 non-X versions are generally better for gaming performance due to their higher L3 cache, which could be crucial for eSports titles.

True, but the 5600 non-X is still more expensive, slightly around $105. I’m sort of torn between the benefits of getting something cheap now but with trade-offs, versus paying more for something future-proof.

Honestly, scrap the 5500. With only half the L3 cache of the 5600 series, it’s gonna hurt your gaming performance, especially in competitive games. If you can, definitely aim for the 5600 non-X, it’s a solid investment!
