I've been using my Ryzen 7 5800X with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a 5700XT since 2019, and I recently upgraded to a 9070XT GPU about two months ago. The performance boost has been amazing, allowing me to hit 120 to 200 fps on high or extreme settings on my 1440p 200Hz Samsung monitor. I mainly play competitive FPS games and I'm considering getting back into streaming and content creation. With that in mind, would upgrading to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D provide significant improvements for my setup, or should I hold off and wait for Zen 6 instead? I'm planning to visit a Microcenter in July to make a decision.

At 1440p, your 5800X won’t hold you back in most titles. I'd actually suggest waiting for your next GPU upgrade or the AM6 CPUs before diving into a new CPU.
I’d recommend waiting for Zen 6. The 5800X is still a solid CPU, and if you upgrade now, you'll also need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM which adds to your cost.
Totally get that! Microcenter has some great deals right now, but I just think it might be smarter to hold tight and see what Zen 6 offers.
Even with the upcoming Zen 6, the 9800X3D will likely still be the top choice, providing great gaming performance. If you’re into streaming, consider the 9900X3D for its extra cores that could help with multitasking during broadcasts.
Going to Microcenter is a good chance to get a CPU, motherboard, and RAM deal all at once, so it might be worth it if you feel like you want that upgrade now.
Definitely keep in mind that at 1440p, the GPU will take priority over the CPU, but the added cache in the 9800X3D can really help with performance stability and lows.
If you're looking for a performance boost, the 9800X3D will definitely help reduce any CPU bottlenecks in some games. Your 5800X will work, but it'll be outpaced by the new CPU in most scenarios.
I saw an analysis that matches this sentiment perfectly. The difference in games could be noticeable, especially for fast-paced FPS where every frame counts.

But here's the thing: I just upgraded from the 5700XT to the 9070XT and saw huge improvements. I'm just curious if going for a Zen 5 setup might push my performance even further!
