Is it worth upgrading my cooler from Thermalright to Arctic III PRO?

I'm currently using a Thermalright Frozen Infinity 360 cooler with my Ryzen 7 5700x. My idle temperatures are around 50°C, while gaming, they peak at 65-70°C. I'm about to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 9850X3D, which I've heard tends to run hot. I also have another rig with a Ryzen 7 2700x and a Cooler Master Core II 240 AIO, which keeps it at about 30°C idle and 50-55°C while gaming. I've used the same Arctic MX-6 thermal paste on both setups and neither is overclocked. Should I consider switching to the Arctic III PRO for better cooling?

I’ve been running the Arctic III Pro with a Ryzen 9 9800x3d for about 6 months, and my idle temps are usually around 36°C. If you do decide to switch, I think you’ll see a nice drop in your temps, especially under load!

I'd say stick with what you have for now unless you notice performance issues. The 360mm should be adequate as long as it’s functioning right. And remember, it's common for different coolers to perform differently even with similar hardware.

Honestly, a 50°C idle isn't that unusual, but you might want to double-check the pump speed and ensure that your cooler is mounted evenly. If everything's secure and your 360mm AIO is functioning properly, it should handle the 9850X3D fine. But if you're still worried, upgrading to the Arctic III Pro could be a good move for peace of mind!

I feel you on the concerns! It does seem odd that your 240mm cooler is outperforming the 360mm—it can be super frustrating. If you’re anxious about temps, maybe consider upgrading just to be safe with the new processor.

I’ve had setups with similar specs, and 50°C idle is pretty standard for many CPUs. It sounds like you’re dealing with quite a normal situation, but checking ambient temps might help. If your gaming temps are still below 70°C, that's not too bad!
