Is it Worth Upgrading My CPU Right Now?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. I built my PC about a year ago with a Ryzen 5 5600, a Radeon RX 6650 XT, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I have some gift cards that I need to use up on Amazon, and I'm thinking about upgrading my setup. I'm really satisfied with my GPU, but I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X for around 200 Euros. I feel like it might help with installing Windows 11—especially for security updates—and would boost my performance significantly. Are there any better options in the same price range, or should I even consider upgrading my RAM instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to hold off on upgrading to the 5800X for your gaming needs. The performance boost from the 5600 to the 5800X is minimal—only about 8% at most. Most of the time, your GPU will be the limiting factor, not the CPU. Plus, you can already run Windows 11 if you just change some settings in the BIOS. Instead of a CPU upgrade, if you don’t have a good M.2 NVMe SSD, that could be worth investing in and then do a clean install of Windows 11 on it.

You don’t really need to upgrade your CPU to install Windows 11. Your 5600 is good enough, and you may find that some games do require more cores, but a CPU upgrade isn't essential. Also, consider that your current CPU can handle better GPUs in the future, so you might want to save for that upgrade instead. If you have a decent monitor and headset, you're already set in that department.

Honestly, switching from the 5600 to 5800X isn’t really a smart move. They perform similarly in gaming scenarios. If you want a noticeable improvement, consider adding another 16GB of RAM instead. While 16GB works fine for gaming, going for 32GB will help if you like to multitask with apps like browsers and Spotify while gaming.
