Hey everyone! I have an Intel i7-10700k that's still running well despite being a bit older. My current setup performs decently, but I've noticed that it sometimes bottlenecks my RTX 3080. I'm considering a full build upgrade, including the motherboard, RAM, CPU, and cooler, but with the current RAM shortage, I'm hesitant. I helped a friend build their PC last year and I can't justify spending over $700 on RAM when I saw them get the same kit for under $200. While I know no one can predict when prices will drop, do you think it's smart to upgrade my 10700k to a 10900k, 11700k, or 11900k, especially since I found a used 11900kf for $200? Would that be worth it to last through the next year?

If you want a solid upgrade, I'd suggest the 13600K or 14600K with a DDR4 board. It'll provide a noticeable bump in performance without breaking the bank.
Those Intel upgrades won't really give you significant benefits. It's been said that the 11th gen chips are almost a waste. If you’re looking for an upgrade, go for a DDR4 motherboard and consider newer chips like the 13600kf or 14600kf; they’re pretty affordable right now!
Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about those newer options. They seem like a great deal!
Honestly, upgrading to the 11900K might not give you a huge leap in gaming performance; they're pretty similar in age and performance level. If you do go for it, just know that your current cooling might struggle a bit more with the extra heat. I would advise holding off if your setup still does what you need.
Yeah, I think we're in the same boat. Upgrading to 11900K seems like a hassle with marginal gains. I'd rather wait for better RAM prices.

That's a great idea! It's just a bummer since my current board is built for heavy overclocking.
