Hi everyone! I'm currently using a pretty capable gaming setup, but with the recent release of Battlefield 6, I've found myself having to lower my graphics settings to maintain smooth gameplay. Here's what I've got:
- RTX 2080 Super
- I7-9700k
- 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM
- Z390 Gaming Plus Mainboard
- 500GB M.2 SSD for Windows
- 1TB SSD for storage
- 650W power supply
I bought this setup pre-COVID, and it was performing great until now. I thought about going for a big upgrade, but the prices are just ridiculous. So now I'm wondering if I could make some slight upgrades to boost my performance by 20-30% without overhauling the entire rig. Do you think it's better to upgrade now or wait a couple of years for prices to stabilize? I definitely want to be ready for GTA 6 when it drops!

If you're looking for a solid upgrade, you might want to check eBay for a motherboard and CPU combo. Something like an i5-11600k or 12600k is great. Considering you already have the RAM, you could then focus on the GPU side—maybe grab a GTX 3080 for around $250? That would be about 50% faster and give you extra VRAM. Overall cost could be around $500 or less, depending on what you sell from your old parts. Your current build is very balanced, so you can’t really upgrade just one part without changing a few others.
Great approach! Keeping the existing parts will save you money, and upgrading when prices cool down is smart. Good luck!
Honestly, the prices for Dodge Rams are pretty low right now! 😂
I had the same thought! For a second, I thought this was a truck discussion!
Haha, I totally thought that too! But let’s stick to PCs.
I’d suggest upgrading the GPU before prices go even higher. Your current CPU's performance is pretty much capped unless you want to deal with something like an i9-9900k, which runs hot. Looking at options like the 5060Ti or the 9060XT could give you around a 34% performance boost on average, depending on CPU bottlenecks. Just make sure everything is running smoothly with something like HWInfo64 since Battlefield 6 isn't too taxing on hardware. If you're willing to do a more extensive upgrade, swapping out the mobo and CPU for something more powerful could also work, like going with an i5-14600k or a Ryzen 5 5700X, both using DDR4.

That sounds like a smart plan! Based on your suggestion, I was thinking of going with an i5-14600k and an MSI B760 for DDR4, plus a 5070ti. I’d keep my current case, coolers, and storage. Maybe I might even add another 16GB dual-channel DDR4 RAM kit later on if prices drop. This upgrade would come to about $1.1k where I live—what do you think?
