Is it worth upgrading my motherboard after buying a prebuilt gaming PC?

I recently purchased a prebuilt gaming desktop from Costco for $2099, which I think was a good deal. My system has an MSI pro B840-VC WiFi motherboard, and I'm planning to upgrade the RAM to 64 GB. While I'm happy with its performance, I've heard that my motherboard might not be the best. Considering my plans, should I consider upgrading the motherboard, and if so, what would be a good replacement?

Honestly, I don't think upgrading the motherboard is necessary. Your current board has plenty of features for what you're doing, and the performance difference with a new board might not be significant. Plus, RAM upgrades should work fine without a board swap.

It seems a bit wild to buy a prebuilt for that much and then immediately think about upgrading. Just out of curiosity, what do you run that actually needs 64GB of RAM?

Taking into account that you spent quite a bit on a prebuilt, I think looking for a new motherboard right now isn't the best idea. Those boards generally come with the features you need. I'd check the compatibility list for your RAM if you're thinking about a swap.

If the only thing holding you back is overclocking, I'd say it's not worth the headache to swap out the motherboard. Overclocking can be tricky and might not give you a major performance boost. If the system works for you as is, stick with what you've got!

I get where you're coming from, but usually, it doesn't make sense to replace parts right after buying a prebuilt. The money you’d spend on a new motherboard could be put towards something else that enhances your gaming experience.
