I've had my gaming PC, built back in my teenage years, for a long time now. For the last few years, I switched to using a laptop due to some RAM issues, but recently, my workplace was giving away 64GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM. I snatched it up, hoping to revive my old tower. However, I quickly discovered that my components, like the Z97 motherboard, GTX 970, and i7-4790K, are quite outdated and incompatible with DDR4. Although my laptop handles my gaming needs fine, I have a strong nostalgia for my PC and want to use the 1TB SSD for more games. Given my budget of $1000 AUD, would you recommend upgrading my old PC? What would you suggest I do?

Honestly, the only parts of your old PC worth keeping are the case and storage. If you’re planning a budget upgrade, you might want to look into getting a new motherboard, CPU, and GPU. Just make sure to check compatibility with the DDR4 RAM you got. For around $1000 AUD, you could potentially build a decent setup that can last you a few more years! What's your target for a new GPU? They can heavily influence your gaming experience.
I agree with TechWhiz! It's amazing how much a modern CPU and GPU can breathe new life into an old case. Also, keeping an eye on sales can help you stay within budget.
