I'm currently using a 5600G and I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU. Would it be worth it to spend around $150 AUD on a 5700X, or should I shell out the extra cash for a 5800X3D at about $430? I know the 5800X3D is highly regarded as the best AM4 CPU, but I'm uncertain if the price jump is justifiable. What do you think?

If you're mostly gaming, I'd really consider the 5700X3D. The performance difference is only around 6-8% compared to the 5800X3D, and given how expensive the latter is, saving that money is a smart move. Plus, upgrading from a 5600G to a 5700X isn’t going to make a huge difference in gaming—maybe 5-10% at most!
Honestly, the 5800X3D is pricey right now since they aren't making them anymore. If you can find a 5700X3D, that might be a better choice since it usually comes at a lower price and still offers solid performance.
Honestly, there might be better options now since the cheap stock of AM4 CPUs has pretty much sold out. You could spend around $520 AUD for an AM5 setup like a Ryzen 7600 or 7500F, which gives you performance close to that of the X3D CPUs. Plus, you could sell your current AM4 CPU and motherboard for a decent price to help cover the costs.
Ultimately, it depends on your overall setup—like your GPU and the resolutions you play at. If you’re gaming under 1440p at 60fps, you probably won’t see much gain from the upgrade. Also, if you're running a lower-end GPU, the performance boost might not be that significant.
I’d suggest sticking with the 5700X unless you can snag a 5700X3D for around $250 AUD. The 5800X3D for over $400 is definitely not worth it.
