I have a Ryzen 5800X paired with an RTX 4080, and I mainly enjoy single-player games like Cyberpunk and Red Dead Redemption 2, but I also play competitive games like Overwatch 2 occasionally. I'm gaming at 1440p and considering whether I should upgrade to an AMD 7800X3D or 9800X3D. Is this upgrade worth the investment, or would it just be a waste of money?

If you're quite happy with your current performance, I wouldn't stress over an upgrade right now. Those CPUs are fantastic, but if your games are running smoothly, it's probably best to hang onto your cash for the time being. Plus, with RAM prices skyrocketing, that adds to your savings!
Check how your GPU is performing. If your RTX 4080 isn't maxing out in games, then a CPU upgrade may not give you the boost you want. It's also crucial to ask yourself if you actually feel the need for an upgrade or if you're just considering it because you need a new cooler. They can get pricey, but maybe it's just about keeping what you have for now.

Yeah, I feel you. It's easy to think about upgrading when cool new parts come out, but sometimes it's better to stick with what works!
