I'm considering switching to an OLED monitor, probably a 1440p model, and I'm curious whether the investment will be worth it. I can afford it, but I'm hesitant about spending $750-$950, especially since my current 27" 1440p IPS monitor is great for productivity but falls short in darker games like Resident Evil. I've also noticed that my new gaming laptop has better colors and blacks, which makes my old monitor look worse in comparison. I feel like I might be overthinking this and worrying about whether it's just 'excessive consumerism.'
Would upgrading to an OLED make those dark horror games more enjoyable? I've also heard that OLED monitors might not be the best for productivity tasks like Excel, but I could keep my current monitor for that. Should I take the plunge, or would a high-quality IPS be a better choice?

Why not scout for open box deals? I snagged an Alienware OLED for $450, which was a steal! Sure, it's not brand new, but if the screen is in decent condition, you can save a lot of cash this way. Might be worth it to check out!
I actually went with a mini LED monitor since I work a lot in Excel, and I found the performance to be better for productivity. The OLED panels I tried were super vibrant but didn’t have the same sharpness. But if gaming is your priority, the OLEDs really excel in contrast and brightness. It's a trade-off—think about what you prioritize more.
Absolutely, if you can afford it, going for an OLED monitor is definitely worth the money. The contrast and vibrant colors are amazing, especially for darker or more colorful games. That said, I see the point about it possibly being overkill for productivity work, so having your IPS monitor as a secondary screen could be a good workaround.
Just remember, OLED is really a luxury item. It’s not something you absolutely need, but if you’re frustrated with your current setup, it might be the upgrade you want. Don't feel bad about treating yourself if you're in a position to do so!
If your setup can handle 1440p, definitely go for that. While 4K would be awesome, it sounds like your machine isn't quite ready for it yet. But the jump to OLED from an IPS will make a noticeable difference in quality—that's for sure!

Totally agree! If you're locked into 1440p right now, OLED will still blow you away compared to standard monitors.
