Is it worth upgrading to DDR5 RAM?

I'm currently using 16GB of DDR4 RAM, but it's not sufficient for my needs. My CPU, an i5-10400F, isn't really a problem, but I think it's time for an upgrade. Should I go for 32GB of DDR5 RAM, or would it be better to stick with 32GB of DDR4 for now?

Honestly, it really depends on what you're doing. If you mostly need more RAM, then spending $35 on 32GB of DDR4 is a steal compared to the $300-$400 for DDR5. If you’re planning to replace your CPU, then sure, maybe go for DDR5, but if it's just about RAM, stick with DDR4.

Don’t stress too much about upgrading your entire system just for better RAM. If your CPU is fine for now, spending less to just get 32GB of DDR4 could be the way to go. The performance boost from DDR5 isn’t huge for most tasks—just focus on what will give you the best bang for your buck!

If I were you, I’d go all-in when I upgrade. If you can swing it, opting for 32GB of DDR5 now could really future-proof your system. Remember, you just have to factor in the cost of a new motherboard and CPU too. It’s a big investment but might be worth it long-term.

Your platform can't actually support DDR5 since you'd need to upgrade both your CPU and motherboard to use it. So that's a big factor to consider if you're thinking about making the jump. Just upgrading to 32GB of DDR4 might be the better and cheaper option in the short term.

The performance increase from faster RAM isn't significant for most users. Most of your upgrades should focus on CPU and GPU. If you're on a budget, staying with DDR4 makes more sense, especially since RAM prices have both DDR4 and DDR5 at similar levels right now.
