Is it worth using my cousin’s old PSU for my new PC build?

Hey everyone! I'm about to build my first PC, and it's going to cost around $1200, not counting the GPU since I already have one. My cousin gifted me a PSU called LC1200 V2.4 from 2013, and I'm curious if I should try using it or just buy a new one. What do you think?

I used a similar PSU before, and while it worked fine at first, it failed after two years. For a new system, I’d go for all new components. I find older parts can be prone to failure in a new setup. Plus, you’ll want something compatible with ATX 3. Don’t skimp on the PSU since it powers everything!

Thanks for the input! I think I’ll go with a new one.

Since you have the budget, it might be better to get a new PSU. Also, which GPU do you have already?

Yeah, maybe getting a new one is the way to go! I have a 3060 ti right now.

I recommend getting a new PSU; you'll want 12VHPWR support for newer NVIDIA cards, and even some AMD ones. What's your build looking like? I'd be happy to help with suggestions!

Thanks for the advice! I'm leaning towards:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
- RTX 3060ti (which I own)
- Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WIFI
- Corsair 16x2 DDR5 5200MHz
- Black SN7100 2tb SSD
- Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- Fractal Design North case
