Hey everyone! I'm a 24-year-old guy from Brazil and I'm currently majoring in English at university, mainly because my family pushed me to get an education. However, I really don't want to be a teacher. With the tech market supposedly booming in Brazil, I'm curious if switching to programming is a smart move. I don't currently own a computer, but I'll be getting one soon. I've heard stories of people landing jobs after about a year of study—how true is that? What can I start learning via my phone while I wait for my computer?

Honestly, the job market in Brazil isn’t what it used to be. It’s a tough time for anyone trying to get into programming without a degree. A lot of companies expect candidates to have at least a bachelor’s, so it might be smarter to finish your teaching degree for job security, and then learn coding on the side. You could use online tutorials like CS50 or The Odin Project to get started once you have a PC.
If you have an Android phone, you can use Termux—it lets you do programming tasks directly on your phone. You can even set up programming environments without needing a computer right away. Just search for terminals on your app store.
I think it’s a mixed bag. While you might hear success stories, the reality is that the demand for programming jobs has skyrocketed and they expect a lot from applicants now. Don’t be surprised if it takes longer than a year to land a good position after learning.

I get that, but I think I'd enjoy tech much more than teaching. Family pressure got me into this teaching degree, so I’ll keep exploring!
