Is Linux a Good Choice for Gaming?

Hi everyone! I'm considering switching from Windows to Linux for gaming after having a positive experience with Linux on my Steam Deck. I'm thinking about trying Bazzite since it seems user-friendly and tailored for gamers. However, I have a few questions before making the leap:

1. Is Bazzite the best option for a newcomer, or would another distro be better?
2. When I install games through Steam, will it automatically handle the correct version of Proton, or do I need to set that up manually?
3. If a software claims it works on certain distros, does that typically mean it will work on all distributions? For example, what about BricsCAD?
4. Here's my hardware setup: AMD 5700X, 16GB RAM, MSI Tomahawk B450, AMD 7900 GRE. Are there any potential issues I should be aware of with this configuration?

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, don't shy away from manual steps when it comes to Linux—if that's a concern, sticking with Windows might be better for you. All distros share a lot in common, so what works on one usually works on another. Your hardware looks solid; it should run smoothly out of the box. Linux lets you experiment, so feel free to tinker and have fun with it!

I tried Bazzite too and loved it for gaming! My only hiccups happened when I needed to handle permissions for other projects, which is why I switched to Kubuntu. Now on CachyOS, everything's running smoothly for me!

Steam usually handles Proton installation for you, which is nice! I've managed it on Mint and LMDE without major headaches. Just keep in mind that different distros may have their quirks, but it's generally straightforward.
