I'm curious about how many of you actually use Linux as your main operating system while working in a Windows-focused environment. I work in a Windows shop and I'm learning Linux for cybersecurity. Is it practical to run Linux daily in a setting where Windows predominates? I'm particularly interested in hearing your experiences and any challenges you've faced.

I managed a network primarily through OpenSuse and it worked great, especially for AD integration. It really depends on your role; if you're in a position that supports primarily Linux systems, it can be super efficient. But honestly, dual-booting or using VMs for Windows apps helps navigate the challenges.

Right? It's all about finding the right balance between both environments to get your work done efficiently.

Totally agree! I find using a VM for certain Windows apps works surprisingly well. Just make sure you're comfortable switching back and forth as needed.

I use Ubuntu as my daily driver even in a mixed environment. Most of my work can be done effectively using Windows through RDP or via a VM. I think it boils down to your specific tasks and the apps you rely on. Many can run well on Linux or even in a Windows VM. Plus, setting up a LAMP server on Linux has been beneficial for me. If you're just beginning, don't hesitate to dive in!

I use both systems together all the time, often SSHing into Linux systems from my Windows machine. It’s about using what works best for your workflow. I've been mostly fine using Ubuntu in tandem for tasks like managing logs—it’s way faster than any Windows tool.

Absolutely! I've done it for years without issues, aside from some niche software that restricts itself to Windows. Most of those can run fine on Wine if needed. Just let me know if you have any hesitations, and I can help with that!
