Is Linux Mint a Good Choice for My HP Laptop Setup?

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I've been testing Linux Mint on a virtual machine for a couple of months, and I'm considering making the switch for my HP laptop. Here are my specs:

- **CPU:** Intel Core i7-10510U 1.8 GHz
- **RAM:** 8 GB DDR4
- **Storage:** 1TB NVME m.2 + 1TB HDD
- **GPU:** NVIDIA GeForce MX130 2 GB + Intel UHD Graphics

I mainly use this laptop for browsing, light coding, and some gaming on emulators like DuckStation and PCSX2. Does anyone here have a similar setup? Is it safe to switch fully to Linux Mint? Would love to hear your experiences! Thanks!

Before making the full switch, try booting from a live USB with Mint first. That’ll help you see if all your hardware works smoothly. Good luck with it! You’ll likely enjoy the experience.

You should be good to go! The Nvidia GPU in your setup has the latest driver support, so it shouldn't cause any major issues. Run that hardware on Linux Mint and you should be all set!

Check out the migration page on the wiki for some helpful tips! It’s a great starting point if you have questions. Just remember, only use root when necessary and be cautious with third-party sources!

I’ve got to say, 8GB of RAM is on the lower side for Mint. I recently installed it on an old Acer with similar RAM and it struggled a bit. You might want to keep an eye on memory usage, especially with multiple apps open.

Yeah, I would agree with that. Mint can be a bit heavy on RAM sometimes.

I have a lower spec laptop with an i5 and 4GB RAM and it runs just fine on Mint. If you're mainly browsing and coding, you should have no problem at all!
