Is My 5700X Bottlenecking My 7900XT at 1080p?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to a 7900XT with 20GB of VRAM, and I'm currently running 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM. I'm trying to figure out if I should switch to a 1440p monitor since I'm not seeing any increase in FPS compared to my previous 3060 with 12GB. My games are all installed on an M.2 NVMe SSD. Any advice would be great!

First, make sure V-Sync is disabled; that could be limiting your frame rates. I upgraded from an RX 6800 to an RX 7900XTX, and the difference was significant at all resolutions, including 1080p. You should notice a big boost in performance!

Got it, I'll turn off V-Sync. Thanks for the tip!

Should I also check my refresh rate settings?

I've got a 5700X as well and I game at 1440p. I saw a massive upgrade when I switched from a 3060 Ti to a 3080, and then again when I moved to the 7900 XT. It sounds like there might be another issue if you're getting the same FPS as before—your CPU isn't likely bottlenecking this setup.

I had a driver timeout the other day that froze my game. I’m not used to AMD; I always downloaded NVIDIA drivers directly. Could that be affecting performance?

If you're confused about the drivers, I can help walk you through the installation!
