Is My CPU Causing a Bottleneck with My New GPU?

I recently upgraded to a 5070 Ti and the performance is mostly fantastic at high settings and 1440p, reaching about 150 fps in many games. However, I've noticed that Arc Raiders seems to cap at around 100 fps, regardless of the settings I use. I'm currently on a 5800X CPU, and I'm wondering if that's what's causing the bottleneck in this particular game.

I'm open to upgrading my CPU if needed, but I'd like to avoid switching to an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM because of the costs involved. Is there an AMD CPU compatible with AM4 that won't bottleneck my system? Thanks!

Honestly, your 5800X is one of the best CPUs for the AM4 platform. In most cases, it won't bottleneck the 5070 Ti significantly. You might see some frame drops in certain games, but overall your performance is solid. Just keep your expectations in check, especially for a game like Arc Raiders.

Exactly! 100 fps is still very playable. It's a bit frustrating, but improving your visuals is worth it, and upgrading now might not give you enough of a boost.

No AM4 CPU is really going to provide a substantial performance boost. When you mention being locked at 100 fps, are you seeing it stick right around that number no matter what's happening on screen?

Oh, my bad! It actually fluctuates between 95 and 105 fps. I was averaging at 100 fps.

If you're looking for a CPU upgrade without switching to AM5 and DDR5, the 5800X3D might be your best bet. However, it may not give you a significant performance boost in some games, including Arc Raiders. Your current setup is already powerful, so don't expect massive gains unless you're running higher resolutions like 4K.

Yeah, it sounds like the FPS increase might be negligible, so it might not be worth the investment until the AM5 and DDR5 prices come down.

A quick check: is your GPU usage maxed out? If it’s sitting around 80-90%, then you're probably in good shape! Generally, if a CPU is bottlenecking, you’d see GPU usage drop significantly.

Yep, I've been gaming with a friend who has the same GPU, and I get a steady 144 fps, so I suspect he might be using AM5 and DDR5.
