Is My CPU Causing Issues with My GPU?

I just built a new PC for gaming, but I've been experiencing some annoying stuttering after about 20-30 minutes of gameplay. The issues pop up randomly—sometimes right away while playing Star Wars Battlefront, and other times it might be fine for a couple of hours. When the game starts stuttering, closing it seems to resolve the issue and my PC goes back to normal after a minute or two. I thought it might be overheating, but my CPU and GPU temperatures are normal. Now I'm wondering if the problem is that my CPU isn't powerful enough for my GPU. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! Here are my specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F, GPU: RTX 3070 8GB, Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M Gaming WiFi, RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz, Power Supply: 850W Fully Modular 80+ Gold. Thanks!

Thermal throttling might be a culprit here. It could be worth monitoring your temps while gaming. If the CPU or GPU gets too hot, it might throttle back performance. Good cooling can help, but you don’t necessarily have to splash out on a full water cooling setup—just optimize your airflow!

That's a great point! Sometimes just adjusting fan directions or cleaning dust can make a big difference in performance.

It sounds like this might be more of a software or driver issue than a hardware bottleneck. Make sure all your drivers, especially the chipset and GPU drivers, are up to date. Also, if you're running antivirus software while gaming, try disabling it to see if that fixes the stuttering—some AVs can slow down performance during resource-heavy tasks.

Exactly! I used to have a similar issue and it was the antivirus doing memory scans that caused stuttering. Definitely worth a check!

You should definitely check your RAM setup. Make sure that EXPO (not XMP since you have an AMD setup) is enabled for your RAM to run at the right speed. Another tip is to check your power supply to ensure it’s appropriately powering your GPU without using a daisy chain. That could alleviate some of the stuttering you're experiencing.

Yep! Also keep an eye on the GPU load during gaming—if it’s not hitting its max, you could be looking at a potential VRAM issue as well.

The stuttering could possibly be VRAM related. Sometimes games like Battlefront can gradually fill VRAM and then fall back on system RAM, which can lead to stutters. Try lowering texture settings and see if that helps. Also, monitor your disk usage during gameplay—having the game installed on an SSD is a plus!

It doesn’t sound like your system is bottlenecked. Your CPU and GPU are a pretty good match. If you’re experiencing stuttering after 20 minutes, it’s likely not a bottleneck issue. I’d recommend uninstalling your graphics drivers using DDU and then doing a fresh installation. That might clear things up!
