Is My CPU Performance Underwhelming?

I'm experiencing frustrating performance issues with my setup, which includes a 3070 GPU and an i7-11700F CPU. When playing games like Battlefield 6, I encounter significant lag in large scale battles, which feels like slow motion. While I've noticed some games run decently (like Red Dead Redemption 2 at 80-90 fps), others like Fortnite only hit about 30 fps, even when using performance mode with DirectX 12. I've already tried optimizing settings and doing an NVIDIA auto-tune but nothing seems to improve overall performance. My cousin checked my CPU temps and core performance, and said they looked fine. I'm at a loss and starting to get really frustrated. Should I save up for a new CPU or would switching to a 1440p monitor make any difference?

Switching to 1440p can sometimes help, but it really depends on the game. If it’s CPU intensive, your performance might not see much improvement. Generally, a new CPU would likely yield better results, especially for more demanding titles.

Have you looked into your CPU usage? If it’s hitting 100%, that can definitely lead to performance drops. Even in lighter games, your CPU may not handle everything efficiently. Try checking which processes are taking up your CPU resources.

I checked and noticed something similar. My CPU usage spikes during certain games, while the GPU usage sometimes stays below 90%. It might be worth investigating if certain processes are causing this!

You might also want to consider adjusting the power settings in your BIOS. If your CPU isn’t getting enough power, it could lead to underperformance. Make sure the power budget for your CPU is set correctly for optimal performance.

One thing to check is your RAM. Having only 16 GB might be part of the issue, especially if you notice it maxing out while gaming. You might want to consider upgrading to 32 GB if you can. It could help improve performance in more demanding games.

Yeah, I’d be cautious about spending a lot if RAM ends up being the bottleneck. Make sure to monitor your usage when you're playing!

Your CPU temps could also be a significant factor. If it's running too hot, it may downclock itself to prevent damage. Ensure your cooling is adequate and check your max temperatures during gameplay. Running at 85°C or higher could lead to performance issues.
