Hey everyone! I'm considering developing a scraper tool aimed at helping small-scale crypto miners. The idea is to compile data from various websites, like CoinMarketCap, to identify the latest and easiest-to-mine cryptocurrencies, along with potential earnings based on the miner's hardware specifications. I know there are existing projects, but they mostly target larger cryptocurrencies that require significant computing power. The challenge I face is that I need data from CapCoins, which is either only available on a protected JSON page or requires an API key. I have a free API key, but it severely limits what I can do—like I can only sort the data. Buying a more functional API key is quite expensive, though. Should I forge ahead with coding based on limited testing due to my key restrictions, or would it be better to keep this project personal and not pursue it further?

The days of solo crypto mining really are behind us. It's now a multi-million dollar industry where operations run on massive clusters, not individual PCs. I doubt your project will have much future, but you could treat it as a personal hobby, and who knows? You might learn something valuable along the way!
That makes sense. I think I’ll keep it more as a personal challenge.
Honestly, I don’t see a bright future for this project. Many engineers I know aren't taking crypto seriously. It's more of a playground for money-minded folks who think they understand something complex. Plus, if you're debating whether to pursue a project you can't properly test, the answer is usually a hard "no". Even robustly tested projects can fall apart, so be cautious!
I appreciate your honesty, but I guess I feel the same way about crypto's viability. Thanks for the advice!
That's a good point! I might still try it out for fun. Thanks for the perspective!
