Is My External HDD Safe with High Read Error Rate?

Hey everyone! Last week, I noticed that the current pending sector count on my external HDD spiked to 200. I ran CHKDSK to check for issues, and it said everything was fine. But after restarting, it tried to fix the HDD again, and the situation didn't change. Now, when I checked with CrystalDiskInfo, it marked the Read Error Rate as "bad." I can't format my drive because I don't have a way to back up my data, and buying a new drive isn't possible right now. My SSD is only 2 TB and has 700 GB free while my full HDD is 4 TB. Just to add, my parents turned off the power supply without telling me, but I shouldn't have been affected by that since I thought I had shut down my PC properly. So, is my HDD safe? If not, what can I do to salvage it?

Your disk isn't safe anymore for storing data. You've had over 35,000 read errors, plus some seeking errors. That means it’s trying to read files and having difficulty, which can lead to very slow performance. Also, those pending sectors mean there could be corrupted files. If you have anything really important on that drive, make sure to back it up somewhere else—like a USB drive or a cloud service. The HDD probably won’t worsen if you keep it unplugged until you can get a new one.
