I live in Japan and recently helped a friend with a technical issue. Their Wi-Fi password is simply an 8-digit number, and I'm concerned that it might be insecure. I think a neighbor could easily use a tool like Kali Linux to brute-force that password since there are only 100 million combinations. Isn't that a weak setup? Am I overthinking this?

How secure does your friend want it to be? Just remember, Kali Linux is a legitimate Linux distro that comes with lots of tools, but it’s not a magic hack tool per se. If your friend feels comfortable with the security, they might not need to worry too much about it.

I see what you mean. I was reading about how brute-forcing works, and I got curious about whether it's even possible when Wi-Fi doesn't always send a recognizable hash of the password.
