Hey everyone, I'm in the process of building a new gaming PC and would love some feedback before I make my purchase. I've put together a list of parts on PCPartPicker and I'm hoping you can help me do a quick sanity check. I want this build to run AAA games at 1080p and hit around 60fps for a good while. Here's the part list:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core
- CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance 64 GB DDR5-6000
- Storage: Two Western Digital SN850X 4 TB NVMe SSDs
- Video Card: Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
- Case: Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
- Power Supply: Corsair RM850e 850W 80+ Gold
- Fans: Multiple Noctua A14 PWM 140mm
I've got an older setup with a 1080 TI and an 8th gen Intel CPU, so I'm ready for an upgrade. Although I don't mind dropping down a bit in settings, I'm pretty particular about noise levels because my current setup is quite loud, hence why I chose Noctua for cooling. I know the market isn't the best right now, but I'm ready to move on. What do you think about my selection, especially the motherboard and power supply? PCPartPicker mentions needing to update the BIOS, which I can handle. I'm also looking for some clarity on the differences between the motherboards since they all seem a bit similar to me. Thanks!

Honestly, going all out for 1080p60 is a bit overkill. A setup like that could easily handle more, but if you're cool with dropping settings here and there for AAA titles, you should be fine on your current choices.
I think you should consider an AIO cooler instead of that Noctua air cooler—it's pretty pricey at $140! Also, if you're at 1080p, you could actually save some cash with a different GPU or even a cheaper motherboard; something like a B850. But if you want to stick with AMD for Linux compatibility, just keep an eye out for better GPU options; the market's been tough.
If you're gaming at 1080p60, you might get away with a less expensive setup. I suggest looking for a better monitor or a mid-tier GPU like a RX 5060 or 9070. You really don't need to overbuild it for that resolution!
Thanks for the tips! I prefer AMD for Linux since Nvidia's drivers haven’t been great. But if the budget's flexible, are there any higher-end AMD options? I couldn’t find anything that compares to the 5080.
Fair point! I just want to future-proof a bit, and if higher settings are available without issues, I want that option. Thanks!
