Is My Gaming PC Build Plan Solid or Should I Make Changes?

Hey everyone! I'm finally in a position to build a decent modern gaming PC and I want to get some feedback on my current parts list. Here's what I'm planning to buy:

- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- **Motherboard**: GIGABYTE X870E Aorus Elite
- **Memory**: G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4 6400 RAM (I know it's a bit excessive, but I want to go all out on RAM.)
- **GPU**: MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- **Case**: NZXT H9 Flow
- **Storage**: SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD (4TB and 2TB), plus my existing Samsung 970 (1TB)
- **CPU Cooler**: ASUS ROG Ryujin III 360 AIO
- **Power Supply**: 1000W

I'm particularly unsure about the CPU cooler, GPU, and motherboard, and I'd love to hear if you think I should make any changes. I'm planning to use this build primarily for VR gaming, especially modded games like Blade & Sorcery and for modern titles that my current setup struggles with, such as Monster Hunter Wilds and Cyberpunk 2077. I have a 1440p monitor and I'm looking at the new Valve VR headset, which I trust will be great. Also, my budget is under $5k because that feels a bit steep to me. What do you all think?

Honestly, that motherboard is definitely overkill for what you're doing. And why have 64GB of RAM? More sticks can make your system less stable, especially on AM5. As for the cooler, the ASUS option is overpriced compared to others with similar specs. If you're aiming for performance vs. price, you should be well below $2k. Maybe adjust some parts and you'll see a big difference in your total cost!

Wow, I didn't realize that! Thanks for pointing that out, especially about the RAM. I thought having more sticks was better! I'll check out some alternatives.

You can definitely lower your power supply to 850W for your build. An 850W is more than enough for the 9800X3D and RTX 5070 Ti. Also, the motherboard seems way over the top; you might not need to spend that much on it.

Plus, consider that huge case of yours – it's massive at 76L! You might want to think about if you really need that much space. Don't forget, when you're aiming for high quality, sometimes less can be more! Check out this build suggestion for some more budget-friendly options.

Thanks a lot for this! I appreciate keeping it budget-friendly because I haven't built a solid PC in years and I want this one to be the best.

Remember that not all 1000W PSUs are created equal. Make sure to choose one from a reputable brand so you're not stuck with a bad power supply. Your CPU and GPU combo should definitely come in at under $2k if you choose wisely, so keep an eye on that!

Thanks for that tip! I’ll definitely look into getting a PSU from a trusted brand.

B850 motherboard sounds ideal for your setup instead of the X870E. It'll save you some cash and still give you solid performance.
