Is My GTX 1080 Good Enough for Upcoming Games at 1440p?

I'm trying to figure out if I can keep using my GTX 1080 GPU for a while longer while I upgrade other parts of my PC. My goal is to run new titles like Resident Evil 9 and Silent Hill 1 Remake at 1440p. I want to boost performance on older games like PUBG and 7 Days to Die, and also improve Stable Diffusion XL generation speed without switching out my GPU right now. I've got some parts already, like fans, case, power supply, and the GPU itself. I'm also picking up a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, plus I have two 500GB SATA SSDs and a 1TB HDD. Am I setting myself up for disappointment?

While the 1080 can handle 1440p, it won't give you the smoothest experience with the latest titles. If you're still using it and happy for now, I get it, but don't expect it to last too long with games getting more demanding.

I appreciate the heads-up! It’s a balancing act with my budget right now.

Exactly, getting the most out of what you have is smart!

You might find the 1080 workable, but if you want steady frame rates at 1440p, an upgrade will be necessary. Maybe consider an SSD for better load times as well.

Good call! The HDD is really just for non-game stuff.

Yeah, upgrading storage can make a huge difference!

It's definitely doable for now, but keep an eye out for Shader Model support issues. Some new games might not even launch with the 1080 because of that. Just be prepared for that hurdle in the future.

For sure, it’s worth checking before buying any new titles!

Yikes, I didn’t even think of that! I’ll have to research the games I want to play.

Honestly, the GTX 1080 is getting a bit old for 1440p gaming. While it can handle some titles decently, newer games are going to struggle. If you're already set with the 1080, you can make it work for now, but I'd recommend planning an upgrade soon if you want to keep up with graphics demands.

Thanks for the advice! I was worried about performance drops.

Yeah, I think the plan is to get by till the next upgrade! As long as it manages most games decently, I’m cool for now.
