Is my GTX 1660 Super good enough for a 4K monitor?

I'm considering setting up a dual monitor system and I'm eyeing the Dell S2725QS, which is a 27" 4K monitor, along with the Dell S2725DS, a 27" 1440p monitor. My main worry is whether my GTX 1660 Super can handle a 4K display effectively for my everyday tasks. I primarily use my PC for browsing, work, and watching content on YouTube and Twitch, with some light gaming like League of Legends, Apex Legends, and Minecraft. For those who have experience with 4K monitors and similar mid-range GPUs, will the 1660 Super be adequate for regular desktop use and video playback? How well would it perform if I occasionally played something like Apex or Fortnite at 4K or even scaled down to 1440p? Should I choose the 4K option or would two 1440p monitors be a better fit for my GPU?

Your GTX 1660 Super is a bit weak for 4K gaming, but it's perfectly fine for everyday tasks and watching videos.

Thanks! I’ve heard that it struggles with 4K gaming, but lowering the resolution should help, right? I came from a 1440p ultrawide at 60Hz, so I hope these monitors will be an upgrade.

If you're serious about playing Apex or Fortnite, I'd recommend going for two 1440p monitors. It aligns better with your GPU's capabilities instead of trying to push 4K, which it really can't handle well.

Ah, decision-making! I don’t play Apex much, but it definitely pushes my system. I mostly watch videos and browse, so I’m curious—would 4K for that be a noticeable improvement over 1440p?

I have a GTX 1660 Ti connected to a 1440p monitor. Games like Apex and Fortnite won't perform well at 4K and only slightly better at 1440p. For FPS games, you want a solid frame rate over graphical fidelity. At 1440p, expect some performance drops, especially in action-packed scenes—you might get around 45 FPS at lower settings. 4K is definitely out of the question for most games. For regular work, though, the 1660 handles it just fine, but it is getting a bit outdated.

Thanks! I didn't mind the quality on my 1440p ultrawide, and I think I was playing at 1080p there, getting about 45 FPS on Apex too.
